New Products Enable the Transition to Digital Video for Broadcasters, Content Providers and Equipment Manufacturers

AMSTERDAM, NL, September 8, 2006 - Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK), a leading, worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, will showcase an extensive range of new and enhanced products at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC), September 8-12, 2006 on Stand 9.429.

New File-Based Content Verification Technology
Tektronix will be showcasing two new additions to the Cerify family of products, Cerify 3.0 and CerifyLite. Cerify is the world’s first automated verification system for file-based digital video and audio content and is designed to enable broadcasters and network operators to verify the quality of file-based, compressed digital video and audio content prior to transmission or use. Cerify ensures that content files are correctly encoded at ingest and ensures that the files are not corrupted during transfer, copy and delivery. The new Cerify 3.0 is a software platform extension that increases file format support to include GXF and MXF. It also includes CeriTalk which enables integration via XML between Cerify and broadcast automation systems. Cerify 3.0 also provides detailed reporting of file parameters and additional baseband video and audio tests.

For some broadcasters and content producers, Cerify may offer more capabilities than necessary. To meet the needs of these customers, Tektronix is now offering CerifyLite which is designed for broadcasters and content producers who need to verify content but who do not require an enterprise-wide networkable solution. CerifyLite is software that can be installed on a standard PC, runs on Windows XP and can test files on the local hard drive. It offers a full range of video and audio codec tests, comes with user definable test templates and offers detailed on-screen reporting of the file parameters and test results.

Improved Audio / Video Synchronization in the Transmission Chain
To help ensure that customers receive the highest audio and video quality, Tektronix has developed SyncCert. SyncCert, which will be on display at IBC, is designed to check and measure audio and video synchronization of compressed video and audio signals. SyncCert is a software tool that can be used anywhere along the transmission chain to assess A/V delay and to help identify errors and correct the problems before they are broadcast to customers.

Validating Codec Design and Performance
Tektronix’s MTS4EA ES Analyzer Version 5.1 features extensive audio analysis capabilities. Its A/V Delay Measurement is designed to measure A/V delay in an encoding system. The Audio Analysis checks for compliance to standards and quickly provides easy-to-understand, full analysis of all aspects of the compression performance used. The MTS4CC, which will be on display at the show, is a new addition to the MTS4EA and it helps broadcasters and equipment designers validate operation of codecs to ensure compliance to industry standards.

Improving the Delivery of Video over IP with the MTS400
Also on display at the booth will be the Tektronix MTS400 series which has been substantially upgraded to offer new tools for validating, debugging and comparing H.264 video equipment and is the first offline software solution available for multiplexing H.264 Elementary Streams into a Transport Stream. Additional IP analysis tools also help test engineers to dramatically shorten the design cycle for IPTV equipment by analysing both MPEG and IP layer performance, thus enabling broadcasters, network operators and equipment manufacturers to deliver the ultimate in high quality IPTV services to their customers.

Real Time IP/MPEG Monitoring
Tektronix will also show the new IP/GigE capabilities (Option GE) for the MTM400. The MTM400 Option GE will provide Gigabit Ethernet connectivity and seamless IP and MPEG layer monitoring for the MTM400 MPEG real time monitor. Designed for monitoring networks which carry Multi Program Transport Streams (MPTS) over Gigabit Ethernet networks, the MTM400 Option GE provides monitoring of both the IP and MPEG layers, integrated error logging with common time stamps and dual threshold alarms. Key to the technology is cross layer correlation which allows support staff to trace faults across IP and MPEG layers to quickly identify, isolate and correct the source of potential quality problems thus helping to maintain quality of service.

Dual Link Signal Generation
Manufacturers producing dual link capable devices need to test the dual-link interfaces and certify designs and standards compliance. Production houses need dual link signal generation technology to calibrate cameras, projectors and other dual link capable devices in their facilities. Tektronix will have its new HDLG7 module for the highly successful TG700 TV Signal Generator Platform on display. The HDLG7 provides a SMPTE 372M compliant interface for dual link HD SDI with the ability to either generate a set of standard test signals or up-convert a single link HD SDI input signal to a dual link output format.

Helping to Deliver Advanced Services to Customers
To help cable operators, broadcasters and set-top box manufacturers deliver an ever-increasing range of advanced services to customers, Tektronix will showcase the new RTX130B integrated MPEG and RF signal generator which is designed to help software engineers design and test both unmodulated and RF modulated playout of MPEG transport streams. The RTX130B helps reduce development expenses and shorten the time it takes to bring products to market. It is a flexible, easy-to-use and highly portable MPEG stream recorder and player with RF modulated output options. It was developed for design and evaluation of consumer DVB-C/QAM and ATSC/8-VSB compliant devices such as set-top boxes and integrated digital televisions which require a directly modulated RF input.

The MTX100B MPEG Player/Recorder now includes a MPEG Elementary Stream Analyzer option. The MTX1000B is a very powerful and portable MPEG analyzer supporting off-line analysis of capture streams. This will prove a useful solution for both the engineering bench and the requirements of facility wide maintenance.
