“We’ve exceeded our revenue markers on all departments. We feel that our advertising and messaging resonated with our audience. I’m very proud of our team, which includes our staff, volunteers, Board of Directors, sponsors and exhibitors,” said Chris Carpenter, Senior Vice President & General Manager San Mateo County Event Center.

The 81st Annual San Mateo County Fair reached 120,646 in attendance, which represents a 5% dip in attendance from 2014.  However, the Fair exceeded sales projections and revenue in all departments from carnival to food and beverage averaging an increase of 20-30% from the previous year.

The first four days of the Fair broke all previous records, but the much-needed rain, which fell on the Bay Area on Wednesday, June 10th, reduced attendance on the Fair’s Free ‘til Free day.  The Warrior’s games were also believed to have contributed to the slight decrease in attendance.

The Fair also experienced a small dip in the numbers of competitive exhibit entries this year with 6,368 entries total from 1,632 exhibitors, just down from the 6,439 entries total from 1,556 exhibitors. Dia de la Feria, held on the last Sunday to honor the Hispanic community, has always been the most widely attended day of the Fair and this year was no exception.

Fair highlights this year included Free concerts all 9 days of the Fair, Technology and Do It Yourself (DIY) exhibits, kids science & education, agriculture, carnival rides, pig races and more emphasis on having a family friendly environment with a special mom’s tent, agri-tourism booth and healthy food options in addition to traditional Fair food.

According to Fair & Festival Manager, Matt Cranford, “We added several new exhibits and our content was more focused on families: Butterfly Adventures, Captain Jack Spareribs, Brad’s World Reptiles, and on the last Saturday the SF Giants World Series Trophy and Tito Fuentes were on hand to sign autographs and have photos taken with fans. Our concert headliners all drew 75% capacity crowds with Sheila E! playing to a sold out show.”

The Fair has been hosting a county fair, which originally began as a flower show in 1926. The biggest attendance for the Fair was in 2013 when the Fair had 130,000 guests on the grounds. The 2015 Fair drew 120,646 people.

The Fair ran from June 6-14th with next year’s Fair scheduled June 11-19th, 2016 with new activities, entertainment and concerts each day.
