Published in 2012, The Poe Consequence received Books-and-Authors.net’s 2012 Supernatural Thriller Book of the Year Award.

The book title sounds like it could be a Ludlum novel, but The Poe Consequence has invented a new genre in itself. Set in a mean street section of Los Angeles, Steinbaum’s first novel is a unique and refreshing blend of supernatural horror, shoot ‘em up gangbanger attitude, and human struggles.

As Steinbaum describes his novel, it is, “A combination of supernatural thriller for those who enjoy that kind of involvement, but just as importantly, a portrait of relatable humanity within the main characters, from alcoholism, racism, and devastating guilt, to redemption and courage to fight through personal tragedies.”

The novel opens with one of the main characters, Warren Palmer, consulting a New Orleans psychic who reveals startling truths and revelations about Warren’s past, present, and dreadful future. A drive-by shooting ends in a gruesome death, and grim occurrences worthy of Poe ensue.

It also won critical praise from many of the top publishing houses in New York, including The Random House Publishing Group, Grand Central Publishing, and The Doubleday Broadway Publishing Group.

The Penguin Group had this to say about Steinbaum’s masterpiece: “The author does an excellent job of melding Edgar Allan Poe’s poetry into the story, and his knowledge of Latino gang life in L.A. certainly comes through in the narrative.”
