KCTS 9/EarthFix Series Wildlife Detectives Investigates Threats to Northwest Wildlife
New two-part series airs May 20 and 27 at 9:00 pm on KCTS 9
KCTS 9 Digital Studios and EarthFix have partnered to produce a new investigative report—Wildlife Detectives—examining the alarming threats to Northwest wildlife, from elk and deer to sturgeon and shellfish, including the illegal overharvesting that can drive a species to extinction. The reporters have gone undercover along with wildlife detectives who are trying to stop criminals from making a killing.
These award-winning environmental journalists have been working for more than a year to bring to light the stories of local wildlife officers’ efforts to protect the public’s health, our Puget Sound shellfish and Northwest wildlife. The special report may be viewed online at http://earthfix.info/news/series/wildlife-detectives/. The two-part television series airs May 20 and 27 at 9:00 pm on KCTS 9, immediately following new episodes of Nature. Both episodes may be viewed online at kcts9.org/wildlife-detectives following the broadcast.
“For the last year and a half, we’ve been embedded with fish and wildlife officers as they are trying to stop poachers,” said Katie Campbell, a multimedia journalist at KCTS 9 who is part of EarthFix, a public media partnership of Pacific Northwest stations focused on reporting stories about environmental issues. “Most people don’t realize the scope of this problem – how prevalent it is, what kind of illegal profits are being made, and how devastating it is to our natural resources. It was certainly eye-opening to me.”
Wildlife Detectives premieres May 20 and May 27 at 9:00 pm on KCTS 9.
