JPMorgan Chase and Employees to Donate up to $1 Million to Aid Nepal Earthquake Relief

Foundation provides $450,000 to CARE, UNICEF and American Red Cross to support relief and recovery efforts and will match employee donations dollar-for-dollar to reach $1 million in total

New York, NY – WEBWIRE

JPMorgan Chase & Co. announced today that it will donate up to $1 million from its foundation and employees to help support relief efforts and those affected by the earthquake in Nepal. Grants totaling $450,000 from the JPMorgan Chase Foundation will go to CARE, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the American Red Cross - three leading organizations on the ground in Nepal and the region helping to provide first aid, search and rescue, temporary shelter, ready-to-eat meals, water purification and personal hygiene items.

“This devastating tragedy calls for an immediate response,” said Dalila Wilson-Scott, Head of Global Philanthropy, JPMorgan Chase. “Our partners on the ground - CARE, UNICEF and the American Red Cross - are working tirelessly to provide humanitarian relief to the people of Nepal and its neighbors as they look to begin the road to recovery and rebuilding.”

The JPMorgan Chase Foundation is also launching a special employee giving campaign that will match employee donations dollar-for-dollar to these organizations. Specifically, the Foundation will match donations made by employees up to $275,000, for a total of up to $550,000.

“On behalf of our employees across the region and around the world, our thoughts are with all those who have been impacted by the devastating earthquake in Nepal,” said Nicolas Aguzin, CEO of Asia Pacific for J.P. Morgan. “J.P. Morgan’s contribution will go towards providing much needed emergency relief efforts to affected communities in order to help them begin the difficult task of rebuilding their lives.”

The JPMorgan Chase funds will help CARE reach hundreds of thousands of people with lifesaving aid and emergency supplies including hygiene items and clothing. The American Red Cross will use the funds to deliver food, water and temporary and intermediate shelter to those in need. UNICEF’s first priority is delivering essential, lifesaving aid to children and families and is providing clean water, sanitation, food, shelter, medical care and more.

“Following an event such as this, it is imperative that we assist in every way possible,” said Kalpana Morparia, CEO and Senior Country Officer of J.P. Morgan, India. “Our firm’s contribution and donations from our employees will provide the critical basic items of food, water and shelter to families who are isolated in villages, scattered across the difficult Himalayan terrain in Nepal.”
