Illinois American Water’s Peoria District to Complete Replacement of 100-Year-Old Water Main

Phase 2 of Project to Start this Week

Peoria , Ill. – WEBWIRE

Illinois American Water’s Peoria District will complete an investment of approximately $1.2 million to replace 2,800 feet of 30-inch water main in Peoria. The water main was originally installed in 1898.

The work to be completed includes installing 1,300 feet of water main from Harvard Avenue to Grand Boulevard in Peoria. Approximately 50 customers in this area will experience a temporary interruption in water service to allow for the upgrade to be completed. The project was communicated directly to those affected.

According to Roger Goodson, senior operations and production managerfor the Peoria District, “This investment helps ensure reliable service for not only drinking water but critical fire protection. It also decreases the chance of main breaks in this area and future inconvenience to customers.”

Weather permitting, the project will be started and completed this week. The first phase of the project was completed in December and included 1,500 feet of water main that feeds two booster stations on Grand Boulevard.

The U.S. EPA reports that the nation’s water utilities will need to make more than $335 billion in infrastructure investments over the next 20 years to ensure public health. These investments include replacing thousands of miles of pipe and upgrades to treatment plants, storage tanks and other assets. Illinois American Water’s investment in main replacement in the Peoria District is just another example of continuous investments and improvements being made, helping to meet the demands of today’s customers and planning for the future.
