BlumShapiro today announced that Office Managing Partner, Shelton, CT office, John Zinno, will receive the 2015 Reverend John P. Blanchfield Community Service Award from Saint Mary School of Waterbury.

The award is presented annually to an individual who embodies the school’s philosophy of Christian scholarship and community service.

Zinno will be honored with others at a special event, The Bells of Saint Mary … Long May They Ring, on May 6.

“To say that I am honored to receive this award is actually an understatement,” said Zinno.  “As a graduate of Saint Mary School, I’m deeply touched that my alma mater would acknowledge me in such a special way.”

Among his many community activities, Zinno is a member of the Leavenworth Society of the United Way of Greater Waterbury.  The Society fosters, promotes and recognizes the vital importance of personal giving at an exceptional level.  He has served as chairman of the successful 2012-2013 United Way of Greater Waterbury annual campaign, raising in excess of $3.5 million.

Since July 2014, Zinno has served as President of the Board of Directors for the Greater Waterbury YMCA, a leadership role he will maintain through July 2016.  His volunteer service has benefitted the organization for more than 16 years.  Previously, he has chaired the Finance Committee and held membership on the Y’s Executive Committee.

Zinno also maintains active memberships on a number of other local boards, including the Saint Mary’s Hospital Foundation Board, the Palace Theatre Board and the Naugatuck Valley Development Corporation Board, on which he serves as treasurer.  In addition, he serves on the Audit Committee for the Palace Theatre.

Zinno has been instrumental in BlumShapiro’s partnership with Christian Community Action in New Haven to provide Thanksgiving meals annually to more than 2,000 families and senior citizens.  Last fall represented the third year of the BlumShapiro Thanksgiving Food Basket Campaign for Christian Community Action.  In addition, he serves as Chair of the Planning Committee for the BlumShapiro Golf Classic, which benefits the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fund for New Haven-area students interested in pursuing college degrees in business.
