EMLab P&K, a TestAmerica company and the leading commercial indoor air quality (IAQ) laboratory in North America, announces that Mycological Progress has published a peer-reviewed article authored by Gregorio Delgado and Fernando Fernández, microbiologists from EMLab P&K’s Phoenix microbiology laboratory, in collaboration with Dr. Andrew Miller, Illinois Natural History Survey, at the University of Illinois in Champaign. The article appears in Mycological Progress, volume 14, issue 2 (February 2015) and is entitled “Curviclavula, a new genus of anamorphic Helotiales (Leotiomycetes) isolated from air.”

We continue to lead and shape the IAQ industry by sharing our research and expertise through specialized publications like Mycological Progress. We are proud that Gregorio Delgado and Fernando Fernández continue contributing to the IAQ industry in meaningful ways,” states Dave Gallup, EMLab P&K’s General Manager and Co-Founder. “Our microbiologists and analysts demonstrate EMLab P&K’s ongoing commitment to quality and technical excellence in all we do.”

The peer-reviewed article describes and illustrates a new fungal genus and species named Curviclavula anemophila isolated from an air sample collected outdoors in New Mexico. The article also explores the phylogenetic relationships of the new fungus with other groups of fungi by using ribosomal DNA sequence data and reveals its peculiar morphology by employing scanning electron microscopy. The Mycological Progress article can be viewed through EMLab P&K’s website at: https://www.emlab.com/s/services/technical-papers.html

Both Gregorio Delgado and Fernando Fernandez hold postgraduate degrees in Mycology with more than two decades of experience with the taxonomy and identification of microfungi. At EMLab P&K, they have acquired extensive experience in the identification of fungi, molds and other biological particles from environmental samples. They have also been published in various peer-reviewed journals and been credited with discovering and describing several new genera and species of fungi.
