We really believe that giving back to our community is important." - Jon Miller, Jon’s Fine Jewelry

Though diamonds may last forever, it is the loved ones who get and give diamonds that really matter; that’s why a local retailer decided to do its part to help heart health during February.

Jon’s Fine Jewelry, a top jeweler in Cocoa Village, did something special to raise funds for the local chapter of the American Heart Association as part of American Heart Health Month.  It ran a Diamonds for Hearts Campaign during the first part of the month.

“We really believe that giving back to our community is important,” said Jon Miller, acclaimed designer of custom jewelry since 1979.  “Given that women are increasingly experiencing some of the same heart issues that men have, we wanted to do what we could.”

To help encourage people to take care of their hearts, the Jeweler offered to donate $10 to the AHA for every customer that visited its store and had a photo taken wearing a favorite piece of jewelry.

“We were overwhelmed by the response of our customers,” Miller said.  “They were happy to do their part in such a worthy cause.”

They had 45 people participate in the program in approximately two weeks, according to Miller.

The local American Heart Association appreciated the efforts of the jeweler.

“Women’s heart issues, from strokes to heart attacks, are of concern to us,” said Buffy McKinney, regional director of the AHA. “Every dollar raised brings us one-step closer to healthier hearts for those we love.”

“Heart Disease is the number one killer of women in America today,” said a representative for the AHA. “Every dollar raised helps our organization bring awareness to women and health care providers alike in our efforts to reduce the risk for women in our community.”

Miller presented the $450 donation to the AHA’s representative at the store Feb. 26.
