National Museum of Natural History’s Baird Auditorium

Novak discusses his path from Harvard grad to playing Ryan on The Office, his experiences behind the scenes on hit TV series and films and what it is like to wear so many hats in the entertainment industry. His book One More Thing: Stories and Other Stories (Knopf) is available for signing after the program.

A Red Carpet Night with Oscar

Thursday, Feb. 19; 6:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.

Smithsonian’s S. Dillon Ripley Center

Film writer Noah Gittell discusses the history of the Academy Awards, memorable Oscar ceremonies and what this year’s nominations say about today’s film industry. Guests will enjoy Hollywood-inspired cocktails and a red carpet full of celebrities—courtesy of Madame Tussauds.

National Museum of Natural History’s Baird Auditorium

The Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra surveys John Coltrane’s work as a musician and composer during his tenure with Miles Davis in the late 1950s, leading to the birth of his own quartet in 1960.
