Hearst Corporation Names Steven D. Birdsall Chief Operating Officer of MOTOR Information Systems
Hearst Corporation today announced the appointment of Steven D. Birdsall as executive vice president and chief operating officer of MOTOR Information Systems, the world’s premier supplier of automotive data. The announcement was made by Steven R. Swartz, president and CEO of Hearst Corporation; Richard P. Malloch, president of Hearst Business Media; and Kevin Carr, president of MOTOR Information Systems. MOTOR is a company within Hearst Business Media, a unit of Hearst. The appointment is effective immediately.
In this newly created role, Birdsall will lead the product development, sales, and marketing departments and will report to Carr. Birdsall joins MOTOR from SAP, where he was most recently senior vice president responsible for the product portfolio, strategic pricing and business development in the Industry Cloud organization.

Birdsall has held a succession of leadership roles at SAP, including a variety of chief operating officer and general manager positions throughout North America, Latin America, Japan and Asia Pacific. Prior to SAP, he was head of worldwide operations at Adobe Systems, and held various sales and sales management roles with Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) and Diebold, Inc. He holds an MBA from Brigham Young University and a B.S. degree in Economics from the University of Utah.
