Novant Health Rowan Medical Centers Earns National Accreditation with Commendation from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons

Novant Health Rowan Medical Center’s cancer program has received three-year accreditation with commendation from the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons. This accreditation acknowledges Novant Health’s commitment to providing high-quality and safe care for cancer patients that exceeds clinical benchmarks and guidelines.

“We are proud to be nationally recognized as an accredited cancer program. Our cancer prevention and treatment team, whether they are in the office or in the hospital, take great pride in providing our patients with the best experience and best outcomes possible,” said Dari Caldwell, president, Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.

To earn voluntary CoC accreditation, a cancer program must meet or exceed 34 CoC quality care standards. Rowan Medical Center has received three-year accreditation with commendation, which is only awarded to facilities that exceed standard requirements at the time of survey.

“This recognition acknowledges that we take a multidisciplinary approach to treating cancer that includes the partnership of surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, diagnostic radiologists, pathologists and clinicians across our care team,” said William Brinkley, MD, oncologist at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.

To receive CoC accreditation, Rowan Medical Center also demonstrated that patients receiving care have access to information on clinical trials and new treatments, genetic counseling, and patient-centered services including psycho-social support, a patient navigation process, and a survivorship care plan that documents the care each patient receives and seeks to improve cancer survivors’ quality of life.
