Unknown Children’s Author Gets Standing Ovation from 250 Strangers Who Beg Him to Turn Poem Into Book
Author Barry Solway had a seven year old niece with a problem. She had to make sure the blankets were pulled up over her feet so the monsters under the bed wouldn’t be tempted by wriggling toes. From that experience, the story-driven poem “Courtship of the Monster Under the Bed” was born.
When Solway shared it, reading from his cellphone, before an audience of 250 adults this September, eyes welled, people cheered and every person rose to give him a standing ovation. They plead with him to turn the poem into an illustrated book. That’s exactly what he’s done with the release of his new children’s book, “Courtship of the Monster Under the Bed.”
Beyond the heartwarming illustrations and lulling poetic pace, what’s so powerful about this story is the message. Ostensibly about monsters and kids, it’s really about compassion, empathy and understanding, three things our kids need to learn, and the world needs more than ever.
The story it’s told in a way that will delight and engage children, without talking down to them, and have their parents reading it to them many times over. “Courtship of the Monster Under the Bed” is destined to become a new bedtime classic.
Barry Solway is a member of the Society of Children’s Bookwriters and Illustrators. His middle grade fantasy novel “The Book of Dreams” is scheduled to release in 2015. He lives in Boulder, CO.
The book is available on Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QNVNXWM.
