Bull Shark Season Starts in Playa del Carmen

As the winter weather settles into Playa del Carmen, the water begins to cool down which attracts bull sharks. At any given time, between 15 and 25 of these predatory hunters can be found in the ocean near the Playa Del Carmen area.

Bull shark diving in Playa del Carmen is growing in popularity, because it is one of the unique times when a person has the opportunity to see these beautiful sharks in the ocean. Local dive shops offer bull shark diving tours that leave from the beaches of Playa del Carmen, allowing tourists and locals to dive with the sharks alongside experienced diver masters.

Bull sharks average 9 feet in length, and they can weigh more than 500 pounds. During a shark diving experience with Diversity Diving, divers descend to a depth of 75 feet and wait for the sharks to come.

No chum or bait is used in the waters during these tours, and the dive instructors work hard to maintain the natural environment to preserve the shark population.
