AASA Leadership, Superintendents Convene At White House ConnectED Event

More than 100 superintendents from across the country are convening at the White House today as part of President Obama’s “ConnectED to the Future” event, a gathering of education leaders who are working toward increasing the level of effective digital learning in our school districts.

Daniel A. Domenech, the executive director of AASA, The School Superintendents Association, and Noelle Ellerson, associate executive director, policy and advocacy, are also attending.

The President spoke at the event and was introduced by Alberto Carvalho, the superintendent of Miami-Dade County (Fla.) Public School District and the 2014 AASA National Superintendent of the Year.   

The event builds on the momentum of the ConnectED initiative, a plan the President announced in 2013, to connect 99 percent of students to high speed internet and empower teachers with the technology they need to transform teaching and learning.

In response to the rapidly increasing level of digital learning underway in our schools, AASA launched the AASA Digital Consortium this week at the Amazon headquarters in Seattle, Wash. More than 20 superintendents are part of the consortium, an initiative to provide school administrators with insight into successful models of best practices using digital media.

Last month, AASA joined CoSN (Consortium for School Networking), and NSBA (National School Boards Association) to launch Leading the Digital Leap – a joint campaign empowering K-12 superintendents, district technology leaders, and school boards to strengthen their digital advocacy and to enable digital learning in their districts.
