Springdale, Ark. – WEBWIRE

Tyson Foods, Inc. recently presented Arthur Williams Middle School in Jesup, Georgia, with a donation at the ribbon cutting ceremony that commemorated the opening of a new fitness trail on the school’s property.  The fitness trail is designed to improve aerobic and muscular fitness.  It will include 10 exercise stations set up throughout the trail, including a pull-up bar, climbing wall and a stretching station.  The trail is the first of its kind in the county and is open for use by all members of the community.

“We are proud to partner with Arthur Williams Middle School to create a safe, fun and unique way of keeping students healthy and active,” said Spencer Armstrong, senior director of sales for the government schools division of Tyson.  “We understand that our products are just a fraction of an overall healthy lifestyle, but we are doing our best to promote daily physical activity as a crucial part of health and wellness.”

The donation was part of Tyson Foods’ Making a Difference Grant that annually recognizes a school with outstanding efforts in improving student wellness.  This award helps schools execute their vision for health and wellness by funding a specific project or a portion of the project through building renovations, equipment, technology, training, and/or programming.

As part of the announcement, Tyson Foods revealed the second recipient of the annual award from the company to a school striving to improve its health and nutrition programs.  The company selected the Arthur Williams Middle School in Georgia, for its efforts to strengthen its nutrition and physical activity programs.  The company has helped fund the purchase of new equipment for the school’s 1 mile outdoor fitness trail.

As one of the leading suppliers of the National School Lunch Program, Tyson Foods has made it their goal to help produce healthy, nutritious menu solutions for students.  The company employs a nutrition team that includes registered dietitians and has a Kid Tested, Kid Approved™ program to develop student-endorsed foods that school foodservice operators can feel confident serving.
