Sagem’s BlueNaute® navigation system chosen by Norwegian Coast Guard

Euronaval 2014, Paris, Le Bourget

Paris, France – WEBWIRE

Sagem (Safran), a world leader in navigation systems and equipment, has won the contract from the Norwegian Coast Guard, part of the Royal Norwegian Navy, to modernize the navigation system on six Coast Guard vessels.

Norway’s Nornen class patrol vessels and the KV Harstad patrol boat will all be fitted with Sagem’s new BlueNaute® attitude and heading reference system.

The BlueNaute® system is based on hemispherical resonator gyros (HRG), an innovative technology patented by Sagem and originally used for space applications.

The BlueNaute® system is especially reliable, offering mean time between failures (MTBF) exceeding 100,000 hours. BlueNaute® marks a major step forward in ease of maintenance and total cost of ownership compared with previous-generation navigation systems – both decisive criteria in this selection by the Norwegian Coast Guard.

Services provided by the BlueNaute® system clearly match the needs of commercial shipping, in compliance with the International Maritime Organisation and the SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) treaty.

Sagem produces the BlueNaute® system at its plant in Montluçon (Auvergne region of south-central France).

Sagem understands and applies all inertial technologies (mechanical, laser, fiber-optic, vibrating), and has built up its expertise over more than 60 years of supplying civil and military navigation systems worldwide.
