foodtweeks™ Adds New Partner to Nationawide Netowrk, Utah Food Bank

Smartphone App Donates to Food Bank to Support Hunger Relief Efforts

Stamford, CT – WEBWIRE

STAMFORD, CT – A nationwide network of partner food banks, and a free weight management app, foodtweeks™, have combined forces to help provide hunger relief and make communities healthier. Utah Food Bank in Salt Lake City, Utah has joined the ranks of foodtweeks™-affiliated food banks and is set to receive donations from the app.

In order for Utah Food Bank to receive donations, a foodtweeks™ user must report “tweeking” (cutting calories from their food). foodtweeks™ will then donate the same number of nutritious calories, enabling the food bank to distribute nutritious meals to hungry families.

Reporting tweeks was even more effective during the month of September for Hunger Action Month. When an app user downloads the app and user downloaded the app using the “UFB” code to double donations to Utah Food Bank, foodtweeks™ would then double it again in support of Hunger Action Month. That made every tweek 4 times more powerful. INow that Hunger Action Month is over, foodtweeks™ is still increasing the impact of donated calories by encouraging users to post a “tweek“ on Facebook or Twitter which doubles or triples each donation.

foodtweeks™ has made it possible for weight-conscious consumers to be “heroes” who serve their communities by feeding the hungry. All they need to do is cut calories from their everyday foods in an easy, enjoyable way to make a difference in the lives of their neighbors.

“foodtweeks™ is proud and excited to support Utah Food Bank,” said Elisa Shannon, foodtweeks™ Executive Vice President of Partnership Development. “Utah Food Bank is a highly committed and respected organization that provides outstanding service to food-insecure members of our community.”

In fact, Utah Food Bank provides food to a statewide network of 130 emergency food pantries and agencies. Last fiscal year, Utah Food Bank distributed 36.3 million pounds of food and goods, the equivalent of approximately 28.4 million meals for families and individuals in need. Utah Food Bank also served over 202,000 Kids Cafe meals, delivered more than 41,000 food boxes and filled more than 69,000 kids’ backpacks for hunger-free weekends.

”Utah Food Bank is delighted to work with foodtweeks™ to enable consumers to support our mission of Fighting Hunger Statewide in a fun and effortless way, while also consuming fewer calories on a daily basis,” said Ginette Bott, Chief Development Officer of Utah Food Bank. “If a couple days of food tweeking will allow us to provide a full nutritious meal to a hungry family, it will have the added benefit of promoting healthy communities.”

The success of foodtweeks™ is due to its unique approach to weight management. Users simply tell the app what food they are thinking of buying, eating or preparing. The app instantly displays images of suggested “tweeks” that remove enough calories to make a positive difference – but not in a way that changes the taste or leaves users hungry.

foodtweeks™ maintains a crowdsourced picture database of more than 44,000 small changes that show users how to “tweek” everything from a particular brand of cheeseburger at a national restaurant chain to grocery store purchases, and homemade dishes of every kind.

foodtweeks™ is rapidly expanding its partner-base to food banks all across the nation, with more joining each week, said Ms. Shannon, herself a former food bank executive. Food banks that wish to affiliate with foodtweeks™ may contact Ms. Shannon by email at elisa@foodtweeks.com.

Jay Walker, the inventor of foodtweeks™, is also the chairman of Patent Properties and curator of TEDMED, the health and medicine edition of the famous TED conference. A noted entrepreneur, Mr. Walker has founded three companies that serve more than 50 million customers. He is best known as the creator of Priceline, which brought a new level of value to the travel industry.
