TAMPA, Fla. – WEBWIRE

WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG) is partnering with Hazard-Perry County Community Ministries and its Star Land Academy to provide 3,000 hours of free after-school care to area families.

The program, sponsored with an $18,000 grant from WellCare of Kentucky, offers free care for all children, including those with disabilities, ages 7 – 14, weekdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and full days from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. during scheduled public school breaks. Children under 7 years of age will be considered on a case-by-case basis. There are no other requirements to participate in the program.

The Star Land Academy staff is highly trained to provide care to all children, including those with medical, behavioral or developmental/intellectual special needs. Children will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Families interested in participating can call 606-436-5720 to schedule care for their children.

“All parents and caregivers need a break from time to time,” said Adrienne Bush, executive director, Hazard-Perry County Community Ministries. “We are grateful for this grant from WellCare, which gives our Star Land Academy the ability to help all area families with after-school care, which costs about $20 per day, per child in this area.”

“WellCare of Kentucky is committed to finding innovative solutions to help people manage the everyday challenges that keep us from achieving and maintaining optimal health,” said Kelly Munson, region president, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee. “This investment will give many parents and caregivers an opportunity to do the things they need to do for their well-being and the well-being of their families.”
