Innovation Makes Computing Easy and Efficient Huawei Unveils FusionServer Series Solutions and SDI

Shanghai, China – WEBWIRE

At the 2014 Huawei Cloud Congress (HCC2014), Huawei unveiled its latest FusionServer V3 series servers using Intel® Xeon™ E5-2600 v3 processors. Huawei’s FusionServer series are a broad portfolio of server solutions for Big Data, cloud computing, virtualization, and mission-critical enterprise applications.

At HCC2014, Qiu Long, General Manager of the server sector with Huawei’s IT product line, introduced the future-proof service-driven infrastructure (SDI) for the first time and revealed Huawei’s latest achievements with partners in the server market.

“In the second quarter of 2014, Huawei ranked fourth worldwide and second in China for server shipments.1 ” said Qiu Long, “Our increasing server market share demonstrates the excellent performance and innovative applications of Huawei servers in the international market. Huawei maintains the fourth place in global server shipments for four consecutive quarters since Q3, 2013.2 ”

Future-proof SDI developed based on customer-centric, continuous innovation

“Steady growth shows that the market presence of Huawei servers is steadily rising, and also shows that Huawei is committed to providing agile, efficient, and easy-to-use computing services to satisfy customer demands.” Qiu Long said, “To achieve this goal, we need to decouple computing, storage, and network architectures and integrate various resources into shared resource pools to configure resources on demand.”

Service applications usually put forward specific requirements (such as SLA and QoS) for infrastructure, and infrastructure dynamically assigns resources based on application policies. This process is invisible to customers. To implement this function, Huawei has developed SDI for cloud data centers, which is different from the traditional “software+standard server” infrastructure. SDI consists of the software-defined storage (SDS), software-defined networking (SDN), software modules, and hardware modules.

Servers, storage, network resources are traditionally controlled by CPUs. However, in SDI mode, storage and network resources are controlled by the SDI hardware in a unified manner, and the servers that provide user-oriented computing services are added to a unified resource pool. Finally the data center infrastructure is formed. With SDI, the stable, reliable, high-performance infrastructure layer is logically decoupled from customer applications, and the infrastructure layer runs in a software-defined way prior to application systems.

Huawei’s FusionServer: open, converged IT infrastructure

At HCC2014, Huawei launched its FusionServer solutions with the mission to build open, converged, innovative IT infrastructure for cloud data centers. These FusionServer solutions provide high performance, reliability, energy efficiency, and agile computing. The launching of FusionServer solutions reveals precise market positioning and strategic layout of Huawei servers. Huawei will continue to help customers generate revenue streams in the cloud ear with the unified platform, profound expertise, and rich experience.

Best infrastructure X6800: universal architecture for various services

At HCC2014, Huawei also unveils the X6800 server, which is the best infrastructure for cloud data centers.

The X6800 is a data center server that features high energy efficiency, less footprint, elastic scalability, high reliability, efficient O&M, and smooth platform switchover, maximizing investment on return (ROI) and minimizing total cost of ownership (TCO). The X6800 server architecture is optimized specifically for applications such as SDS, Big Data, and SDI to apply to various services and address ever-changing service demands.

Huawei also launched a series of FusionServer V3 servers using Intel® Xeon™ E5-2600 v3 processors. These servers include:

  • RH1288 V3, RH2285 V3, and RH2288 V3 rack servers for mission-critical enterprise services.
  • CH121 V3, CH220 V3, CH222 V3, and CH242 V3 server nodes on E9000 converged infrastructure blade servers.

FusionServer V3 series servers enrich Huawei’s open, converged server solutions optimized for workload, and enhance multi-dimensional applications including scale-out, scale-up, converged infrastructure, and I/O acceleration.

New partnerships for future generation solutions

Huawei focuses on customer-centric, open, and collaborative solutions in the server market. Huawei and Beijing Aerospace Changfeng Co., Ltd. jointly announced a video integration sharing platform appliance based on Huawei servers. The two companies will start building a secure, smart modern city hand in hand.

The President of Beijing Aerospace Changfeng Co., Ltd., Tang Ning said, “Our partnership with Huawei for new strategic projects combines channel partners and R&D, and plays an important role in multiple major national security projects. At the opening of HCC2014, I wish great success to the Congress and hope that our two companies continue to partner in further development, joining hands in creating a better future!”

Huawei also showcased the ultra-low-latency ULLtraDIMM SSD developed by SanDisk. Huawei is committed to providing a lower-latency, higher-bandwidth acceleration solution for high-performance databases and virtualization. Huawei will provide complete cache solutions using the perfect combination of ULLtraDIMM SSDs and Huawei RH8100 V3 or RH5885H V3 servers with large memory capacity and powerful processing capabilities. Ultra-low-latency solutions improve virtualization and database cache performances for Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) and Online Analytical Processing (OLAP).
