Media Advisory -- Census Bureau to Host Webinar on American Community Survey Statistics and Health Insurance Measures

WEBWIRE

What:

The Census Bureau will hold a webinar on Sept. 11 in advance of the planned Sept. 18 release of 2013 American Community Survey 1-year statistics. The webinar will show participants how to access the data and compare geographies and statistics over time. Embargo subscribers will have access to these statistics beginning Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m. EDT. (Note: Your embargo username and password will only work once the embargo has started.)

The webinar will also include an overview of upcoming statistics from the Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement. Details of the releases were discussed at an Aug. 18 technical meeting on health insurance coverage statistics.

The ACS provides a wide range of important statistics about people and housing for every community in the nation. The survey is the only source of local estimates for most of the 40 topics it covers for even the smallest communities. It produces statistics for language, education, commuting, employment, mortgage status and rent, as well as income, poverty and health insurance. Estimates will be available for all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, every congressional district, and all counties and places with populations of 65,000 or more.

When:

Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014; 1 p.m. (EDT)

Who:

Jennifer Cheeseman Day, assistant division chief for employment characteristics, Social, Economic and Housing Statistics Division

Gretchen Gooding, survey statistician, American Community Survey Office
