Uncle Ben’s Launches Ben’s Begineers In The UK and Pledges To Get UK Families Cooking Together Again

New Ben’s Beginners online family cooking channel and competition go live as research reveals a quarter of parents never cook with their children

Today, as more than a quarter of UK parents admit they never cook with their children, and one in eight families never use the kitchen to cook a meal in the oven, UNCLE BEN’S® is launching Ben’s BeginnersTM, an online family cooking channel. The new YouTube channel focuses on getting kids and their parents back into the kitchen, learning to cook and having fun in order to nurture a lifelong good relationship with food. Ben’s BeginnersTM is also giving kids across the country the chance of winning £10,000 worth of cooking equipment to transform their school kitchen, by sharing what they have learnt and entering a competition on the channel.

As cooking is about to come back onto the National Curriculum after a 20 year absence, author of “Recipes from My Mother for My Daughter” and TV chef, Lisa Faulkner guides children and families on the channel through the basic skills to get started in the kitchen and supports the launch of Ben’s Beginners. “I know how lucky and thankful I am that my mum cooked together with me and passed on her love and knowledge about food. For me, cooking’s as important a skill as reading and writing and I’m delighted to be working with Ben’s Beginners helping to get families all over the UK cooking together.”

The channel at youtube.com/bensbeginners sees DJ BBQ teaching seven children, the Ben’s Beginners, how to cook simple, incredible and healthy meals, encouraging everyone to get involved from the kids to the mums, the dads and the great-grans. Chosen because of their already strong YouTube followings, the children become the stars of the show as they learn how to cook great food together. Starting today, the channel will be a mix of weekly shows from the Ben’s Beginners studio; ‘out and about’ episodes where the kids hit the road to discover new facts about food; and skills videos teaching cooking basics. Each show aims to inspire children and families across the nation to get into the kitchen and share what they have learnt.

Kristen Kinkella, spokesperson for UNCLE BEN’S® and Mars Food UK, explains further: “We want to help bring families together and start healthy habits early. Evidence shows that kids are more likely to eat a meal when they help prepare it and that when families eat together, they are more likely to eat healthier foods. We want Ben’s BeginnersTM to put the fun into learning how to cook and teach skills that will last a lifetime.”
