Porpoise Evans, a shareholder in the Litigation Practice Group of international law firm Greenberg Traurig, hosted a June 3 panel discussion, “Effective Use of Witness Statements,” at the Greenberg Traurig offices in Washington, D.C. The event was arranged on behalf of the American Bar Association International Law Section’s Africa Committee and attendees included a delegation of Ghanaian lawyers and judges and select members of the District of Columbia Bar.

Specifically, discussion topics included:

  • Depositions, including issues related to impeachment, offers of proof, refreshing recollection, hearsay and other “rules of the road”
  • Use of witness statements in lieu of direct testimony as evidence in bench trials and other proceedings
  • Use of witness statements in aid of foreign proceedings, congressional hearings and  administrative rulemaking
