SAE Internationalas™ Collegiate Design Series to hold Baja SAE Illinois in Peoria a June 4-7

WARRENDALE, Pa. – WEBWIRE

SAE International’s Collegiate Design Series will host the third of its three regional competitions – Baja SAE® Illinois – June 4-7 at Caterpillar Edwards Demonstration and Learning Center in Peoria, Ill.

Baja SAE’s goal is to test aspiring engineering students with a challenging, real world project that will prepare them for their careers in the industry. These students hail from prestigious universities across the United State, Canada, Venezuela, South Korea and India.

The vehicles are powered by a 10-horsepower Intek Model 20 Engine, which are donated by Briggs & Stratton Corporation, one of Baja SAE’s sponsors. The identical engines that every team must use provide an extra challenge to design the vehicle to best utilize the power given. Once designed and assembled, the teams will travel to Rochester, NY to face static and dynamic simulations that will test the vehicle’s capability.

Event Schedule:

·         Wednesday, June 4 – Set-up and Early Registration

·         Thursday, June 5 – Opening Ceremony, Dynamic Brake Testing, Design Finals

·         Friday, June 6 – Dynamic Events: Acceleration, Hill Climb, Maneuverability, Rock Crawl, Practice Track

·         Saturday, June 7 – Endurance Race, Closing Ceremony

NOTE: This schedule is subject to change without notice.

Baja SAE is an all-encompassing project that shows students what it is like to work in a competitive vehicle market.  Not only do students, design, build, test, promote, and race the vehicle, but they must also generate financial support for the project and manage their educational priorities.

Sponsors for the event include: Cummins, Caterpillar, SOLIDWORKS, Honda, Briggs & Stratton, Polaris, Donaldson, MAGNA, PTC, Gaged Engineering, John Deere, ANSYS, Enercon and INTEGRIS.
