The best tactical crossbows on the market. Built on the AR platform!

This summer Borkholder Archery starts to offering some new products to their arsenal of archery products. They’ve always been in the forefront of technology and moving forward in the archery industry but this summer the focus is moving in a different direction. The days of one-size fits all for crossbows is gone. Instead the focus on tactical crossbows.

Starting on May 30, 2014 Borkholder Archery is selling two tactical crossbows. These bows are built for stealth, speed, and customization. The first is from Killer Instinct, designed for superior  quality and performance. The second is from Southern, built on the AR platform allowing owners to mount lasers, flashlights, night vision scopes, and other tactical accessories that apply to the AR platform.

First, the Killer Instinct KI 1350 crossbow kit comes with scope, bolts, and quiver. Crafted with precision aluminum CNC extruded and CNC refined aluminum alloy flight barrel provides smooth, accurate arrow flight. The cams are engineered to produce the maximum arrow speed and the limbs are compression molded limbs with CML technology. The resulting kinetic energy can take down big game at 60 yards. There is an option to upgrade the scope to the Hawke XB1 to take advantage of the available power. The factory scope is great for up to 40 yards but misses the full potential of the KI 1350. Straight out of the box it fires quietly and sound dampening accessories can be added to make it even more stealthy. The trigger is fantastic with little travel and low resistance. At $500 this bow has by far the best cost to value ratio on the market.

Second, the Southern Risen XT crossbow kit includes scope, bolts, quiver, cocking rope, and rail lube. Since it’s built on the tactical AR platform, any AR accessories will fit. Adding a ergonomic grip, laser, flashlight is simple and fun. The quiet firing, low draw weight, and 350 FPS make the Risen XT a steal when compared to its $500 price tag.
Both of these crossbows have anti-dry fire safeties in place to keep the hunter and bow in one piece. Maintenance is straightforward; apply rail lube after every hunt or firing session. Cleaning with a cotton cloth is best and storing in a dry location is recommended.

Plans are to create coyote hunting videos later this summer or early fall. The focus will be on first-hand experience using night vision scopes with these tactical crossbows. Military grade night vision scopes are coming to market in 2014 and Borkholder Archery will be among the first to test them in the field. The videos will be made available through their YouTube channel and other social media outlets.
