Consumer Group calls for urgent action for travel complaints of illness received from UK Holidaymakers for the Hotel Club Mac in Alcudia in Majorca

HolidayTravelWatch has in recent days received reports from holidaymakers which again give cause for concern about the Hotel Club Mac in Alcudia in Majorca. UK Consumers are reporting to this Organisation that they have experienced:

  1. Complaints of Diarrhoea & Stomach Cramps;
  2. Complaints of Vomiting & Fever;
  3. Many people observed to be ill;
  4. People being sick in the hotel dining room;
  5. People being sick at the airport as they were making their way back to the UK
  6. 2 Holiday Representatives were aparently ill and returned to the UK;
  7. Holidaymakers were told that the source of their illness was due to a virus!


This Organisation has received reports from UK holidaymakers for this hotel complex since 2000!

We do not accept that the description of a ’virus’ given to holidaymakers is logical given that many hotels in the same location do not appear to suffer with the same level of problems. Given the recent and indeed annual complaints we receive, there would appear to be a need for this Hotel and UK Tour Operators to take concerted action to deal with any fundamental issues of Health & Hygiene, for the protection of their customers & staff.

Given the concern we have held for this complex for some time, HolidayTravelWatch issued two calls for action in 2012 in which we listed the range of complaints for the years 2011 and 2012 and expressed concern for reports we received in 2012 of alleged Cryptosporidium.

We are concerned that the pattern of illness is in the process of repeating itself again in 2014, that will mirror:

  1. 2011 - Reports received in May, June & July of that year;
  2. 2012 - Reports received in July, Agust, September & October of that year, and
  3. 2013 - Reports received in May, June & July of that year.


Holidaymakers who have contacted us are currently receiving Free Advice & Assistance to help them deal with their complaints.
