Proposed Law Would Require Louisiana Home Inspectors to Mention Mold to Buyers

Last month, WDSU News reported that Louisiana State Senator Fred H. Mills, Jr., had authored Senate Bill 66.  According to the article, under current state law, home inspectors are not required to mention mold, but this would change if SB 66 is passed.  Home inspectors would be required to tell clients if they suspect a residential building has mold.

According to language in the original SB 66, “Proposed law retains present law and provides that the minimum standards of practice for home inspectors adopted by the board shall include the requirement that home inspectors inspect the residential resale building for mold and include in the home inspection the presence of any suspected or actual mold, when such suspected or actual mold is discoverable by a visual inspection only without the use of any additional tools, apparatus, or disassembly and without disturbance of building materials or property.”
