California Couple Files Lawsuit against Realty Show Following Sewage Contamination of their Home

Garden Grove, CA – WEBWIRE

Earlier this year, ABC News published a report about a couple from Covina, California, who filed a lawsuit in Superior Court in Los Angeles.  The couple had been in a reality home improvement show about people who had projects that had not been completed properly by contractors.  Their bathroom, which had been left unfinished, was supposed to be completed by the reality show’s licensed contractors who would fix any problems and complete the project.

According to the article, the couple alleges negligence and violation of civil codes after a sewer pipe that was left disconnected spilled about 200 gallons of sewage into their home.  The couple is reportedly suing for $2.87 million in compensatory damages.

Sewage contamination events occur fairly frequently and the damage they can cause is more than just ruined belongings.  Sewage can contain an array of chemical and microbial contaminants, including pathogens that can soak into porous building materials causing an immediate potential threat to building occupants.

“Sewage may contain potentially harmful bacteria, protozoa, mold, viruses and even parasites,” said Jason Dobranic, Ph.D., Vice President of Microbiology and Life Sciences at LA Testing and EMSL Analytical, Inc.  “Exposure to any of these can be a health hazard to not only building occupants, but also for workers tasked with cleaning up the mess.  Remediation work must be thorough as many of these microorganisms can cause serious infections and other medical conditions. LA Testing offers analytical services to identify microbial pathogens, endotoxins and possible chemical contaminants that may be present following sewage contamination in a property.  These same testing services can be utilized after clean-up has taken place to ensure the area has been properly remediated.”

LA Testing recently sponsored an online video about sewage contamination dangers that can be seen at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4XORptvcX8. To learn more about testing services following sewage contamination, please visit www.LATesting.com, email info@LATesting.com or call (800) 755-1794.
