Amsterdam, August 16th – Elsevier announced the signing of a three-year agreement for the provision of vital scientific and medical information to the Jordanian Consortium. The special agreement provides all Jordanian undergraduates, graduates, researchers, faculty and staff within the consortium with access to ScienceDirect collection of 2,000 journals reaching back to 2002. The agreement covers authoritative titles from the core scientific and medical literature including high impact factor journals such as The Lancet and Cell.

The Jordanian consortium is composed of: The University of Jordan, Yarmouk University, Mu’tah University, Jordan University of Science & Technology, Hashemite University, Al-Al Beit University, Al- Balqa’a Applied University, Al- Hussein Bin Talal University. The agreement not only provides the Jordanian research community with complete access to full-text articles on ScienceDirect, but also includes the standard Elsevier “walk-up” provision, permitting all Jordanian citizens coming to libraries for scientific and medical information to access the subscribed content.

"Elsevier is honored to collaborate with the libraries of the Jordanian Consortium to provide their communities with a quarter of the world’s peer reviewed literature,’’ remarked Frank Vrancken Peeters, Managing Director Sales, Science & Technology, Elsevier, “We would also like to extend our thanks and admiration to the consortium’s many critical partners in achieving this agreement: Dr. Khalid Toukan (Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research); Dr. Refaet Al-Fauri (Vice President, Yarmouk University); Dr. Mohammad Raqab (Dean of Libraries, University of Jordan); Eng. Munir Asad, IT Coordinator, Ministry of Higher Education; and Mr. Awad Athamneh (Head, Center of Excellence for Public Jordanian Universities Libraries).”
