Telcos to Leverage IPTV Americas’ Head-end to Offer

Miami, August 16, 2006 - IPTV Americas today announced that it will launch the first MPEG-4 IPTV solution made available to Latin American telecommunications providers using TANDBERG Television (TAT.OL) compression technologies. By the third quarter of this year, IPTV Americas’ centralized digital head-end in Miami will enable telephone companies (telcos) to offer affordable television services and complete their triple play offering.

Telcos in Latin America have extensive land line coverage with broader reach than existing cable networks, so the ability to offer triple play services presents tremendous opportunity for the telcos to build additional customers and revenue and to reduce churn.

“IPTV presents telcos with a solution to offer triple play with their present network infrastructure,” said Alvaro Gazzolo, chief executive officer of IPTV Americas. “IPTV Americas is dedicated to helping Latin American telcos broaden their business and increase customer satisfaction with affordable IPTV products and services. Only with IPTV Americas’ proven management experience in Latin Americas’ pay-TV industry together with TANDBERG Television’s leading technologies were we able to offer a high quality IPTV solution to our clients and content providers.”

As part of the solution, TANDBERG Television will provide its sophisticated MPEG-4 AVC compression system using TANDBERG EN5930 encoders to IPTV Americas’ headend, enabling telcos to deliver more high-quality content to subscribers.

By handling the delivery of MPEG-4 AVC content through regional fiber optic networks and providing affordable set-top boxes, middleware solutions and conditional access services, IPTV Americas provides an affordable solution to telcos looking to expand their subscriber offerings over DSL networks. Telcos will initially have the opportunity to offer 60 basic and premium video signals to their customers along with additional video-on-demand and pay-per-view services.

“The availability of high quality MPEG-4 AVC compression technology in Latin America underscores our global commitment to the telecom industry to provide technologies that are enabling the IPTV market,” said Al Nunez, senior vice president of sales, TANDBERG Television, Inc. “As one of the leading providers of MPEG-4 AVC encoders, we are pleased that our compression technology is enabling the first MPEG-4 AVC offering in Latin America.”
