Gorvins Welcomes Proactive Dementia Strategy

Christine Thornley, Partner in Gorvin’s Wills, Trust and Probate team welcomed the news announced today by Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt to transform the country in to a global leader in fighting dementia.

She commented: “It’s great news for dementia sufferers and their families that the government are looking at improving times for diagnosis. 

“What is equally important is the support given to sufferers after diagnosis.  It’s encouraging to see that some big retail names, Marks and Spencer, Argos and Homebase are looking at training staff to support their customers who suffer from dementia.   

“At Gorvins all of our Wills Trust and Probate team are either Dementia Friend Champions or Dementia Friends for the Alzheimer’s Society as are many of our other staff members, including our receptionists. 

“This really helps us deal with people and families who have been touched by the disease. Having been through the training we understand what to expect and how to handle things when we are discussing the provision of legal services.

“We would encourage as many organisations as possible to look into dementia training.”
