ABIH Publishes Information on Where the CIH Credential is Mentioned in State Regulations

The American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) administers the internationally recognized Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) program.

Lansing, MI – WEBWIRE

We are excited to now have this information available and immediately accessible at the ABIH website.

The staff at the American Board of Industrial Hygiene is frequently asked if various states recognize the Certified Industrial Hygienist designation and, if so, where and by which states?  To answer this important question and to make the answers accessible to everyone, ABIH recently contracted with G. Thomas Cator, LLC.  The company specializes in government relations and was tasked with collecting this information for all 50 states.

Current U.S. state laws and regulations were comprehensively reviewed to identify Industrial Hygiene (IH) terms such as Certified Industrial Hygienist, CIH, Industrial Hygiene, and more.  In total, 11 common terms were included in the search criteria.  They include:

  • Industrial Hygiene
  • Industrial Hygienist
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist – CIH
  • Certified Associate Industrial Hygienist - CAIH
  • American Board of Industrial Hygiene – ABIH
  • American Industrial Hygiene Association – AIHA
  • American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists – ACGIH
  • AIHA Lab Accreditation Program
  • Associate Safety Professional – ASP
  • Certified Safety Professional – CSP
  • Board of Certified Safety Professionals - BCSP

“Documents for all 50 states, including links to each of the laws, regulations and statutes that include any of these 11 terms are now available,” said Lynn O’Donnell, CIH, Executive Director for the American Board of Industrial Hygiene.  “This is a great resource for not only the thousands of CIHs who operate in the United States, but also for anyone involved in the industrial hygiene profession.  We are excited to now have this information available and immediately accessible at the ABIH website.”
