Amazon Publishing Author Helen Bryan Reaches 1 Million Copies Sold

Sales of War Brides and The Sisterhood have made Bryan the second Amazon Publishing author to reach the 1 million copy milestone

SEATTLE --  (NASDAQ: AMZN)—Amazon Publishing today announced that Helen Bryan, author of historical novels War Brides (2012) and The Sisterhood (2013), has become the second Amazon Publishing author to sell one million copies in combined print, audio, and Kindle editions worldwide. In July 2013, Amazon Publishing author Oliver Pötzsch crossed the one million copy threshold with his critically acclaimed Hangman’s Daughter series.

Bryan, who was born in Virginia and lives in England, originally published War Brides in the UK and later self-published the title via Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), Amazon’s self-publishing platform. War Brides caught the eye of Amazon Publishing editor Terry Goodman, who acquired the book for AmazonEncore, Amazon Publishing’s first imprint, and this edition of the book soon became a #1 Kindle best seller.

“From the moment I laid eyes on War Brides, I knew that Helen’s voice should be heard by as wide an audience as possible. Her engrossing stories and unique characters were bound to resonate with a broad spectrum of readers,” said Terry Goodman, Editorial Lead, Lake Union Publishing. “We’re thrilled to have been by Helen’s side as one million readers around the world discovered—and loved—her books.”

War Brides is the story of five young women who fight a personal battle against the Axis powers during World War II. The story is inspired by the true wartime stories of Bryan’s family and of the brave women who joined Churchill’s Special Operations Executive. The Sisterhood, Bryan’s second novel, was released by Amazon Publishing’s Lake Union imprint in April 2013. Set in a Spanish convent during the Inquisition, The Sisterhood spans centuries and chronicles a young woman’s quest to make a connection with her mysterious past. The Sisterhood also became a #1 best-selling Kindle book soon after its release.

“Learning that your books have sold a million copies is the stuff of authors’ dreams, so this was just sensational news. Knowing how many wonderfully written books are out there, I’m thrilled and a little awed that so many readers have chosen mine,” said Bryan.

War Brides and The Sisterhood are available for purchase from Amazon and in bookstores nationwide. War Brides has a 4.3-star average across 3,991 Amazon customer reviews with 8,967 ratings on Goodreads. The Sisterhood has a 4.2-star average across 1,711 Amazon customer reviews with 3,123 ratings on Goodreads.
