Mobile virtual private network (Mobile VPN) delivers improved communications for mission critical data

SCHAUMBURG., Ill. 15 August 2006 – Motorola (NYSE:MOT) today announced new enhancements to Multi-Net MobilityTM, a mobile VPN solution that delivers secure, seamless connectivity to public safety and government workers. A new network switching feature and support for additional wireless network interoperability have been developed for Multi-Net Mobility to meet the rapidly changing needs of users as they roam between wireless networks.

Optimized network switching is added to Multi-Net Mobility’s Intelligent Routing suite of features. When the user is in an area of overlapping wireless network coverage, and the active network experiences weaker signal strength, optimized network switching detects the drop in signal quality and automatically switches to the next available network. Data packets are sent over both networks simultaneously during the switchover to minimize lost data.

Multi-Net Mobility now interoperates with Motorola Astro Integrated Voice and Data and Motorola High Performance Data (HPD) systems, giving customers the ability to roam between Astro Integrated Voice and Data, High Performance Data, MOTOMESHTM, wireless carriers and Wi-Fi networks. This enhancement enables virtual private networks composed of wide area and broadband coverage.

"We are excited to add these important new features to our Multi-Net Mobility offering,” comments Nick Rendone, vice president of Motorola’s Data Solutions Organization, Networks & Enterprise. “Optimized network switching improves performance in a way that is consistent with our emphasis on mission-critical data, and the addition of Astro Integrated Voice and Data and High Performance Data interoperability will enable our customers to move seamlessly between wide area and broadband data networks”.

Multi-Net Mobility adds security and extends connectivity for MOTOMESH and the family of MOTOwi4TM wireless broadband network solutions and supports the Motorola Seamless Mobility strategy for public safety and government customers. Multi-Net Mobility offers secure, interoperable, mobile broadband to meet the needs of users on the move.

Delivering IP coverage to virtually all spaces, the MOTOwi4 portfolio includes Fixed Broadband, Mesh, Broadband over Powerline, and WiMAX solutions for private and public networks.
