Shazam and Saavn Expand Partnership to Power Music Discovery in the World’s Fastest-Growing Music Democracy
For the first time, Shazam’s music tagging service comes to the masses in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bhutan through partnership with Saavn

Today Shazam®, the world’s leading media engagement company, announced the expansion of its exclusive partnership with Saavn®, the world’s largest Indian music streaming service. The broadened partnership brings Shazam to Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bhutan, in addition to India.
The new launch gives music fans in these territories a fast and easy way to discover, explore, buy, and share the latest music from their favorite artists in Bollywood and beyond via Shazam’s tagging mechanism, which is now mapped to Saavn’s vast content library. Popular genres, such as film, bhangra, devotional, ghazals, pop, and more, are available for tagging, as are tracks in various languages, including Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, and English.
The expansion comes on the heels of rapid growth for both Shazam and Saavn in India. Since launching with Saavn in India in April 2013, Shazam has seen a 25 percent increase in tagging via its app, equivalent to millions of tagged tracks. Saavn has 10 times more weekly referrals to its website and apps thanks to Shazam, with streams of international content increasing by 100 percent in the first month of implementation.

In a strategic move, Saavn and Shazam are also creating dynamic mixed-language playlists, featured on Saavn’s homepage. These multi-lingual playlists consist of the top-tagged tracks via Shazam, and add a fun, game-like element to Saavn’s features section. This new feature was developed to gamify the experience and encourage listeners to tag songs in order to “vote” them onto the homepage.
