Akonix A-Series Appliances Offer Native API Support for Jabber XCP 5.1

WEBWIRE

San Diego, Calif. – August 15, 2006 – Akonix Systems, Inc., provider of the most deployed instant messaging (IM) security and compliance products in the world, today announced that version 5.1 of L7 Enterprise™ on its A-Series IM Security Appliances™ is the first product to integrate with Jabber, Inc.’s Jabber Extensible Communications Platform (Jabber XCP) 5.1 at the application programming interface (API) level.

The combination of Akonix L7 Enterprise and Akonix L7 Enforcer™ on the A-Series appliances with Jabber XCP’s proven security and architecture provides state-of-the-art security, compliance and policy enforcement for Enterprise Instant Messaging (EIM) deployments. Organizations also have policy-based access to Jabber XCP’s EIM and can enforce compliance policies, such as file transfer rules and content filtering, set by IT managers. With Akonix’s appliances, customers benefit from clean, API-based integration and a highly-scalable IM system capable of securing up to 100,000 employees with a single A6000 appliance. IT managers can also audit encrypted communications via L7 Enterprise and take advantage of its robust and flexible policy engine.

Akonix L7 Enterprise communicates with Jabber XCP via API integration, to direct IM traffic through the A6000 appliance for policy management. Akonix also supports federated Jabber environments, both Jabber to Jabber and Jabber to AOL federation, enabling employees to communicate with colleagues, partners and customers securely who are on other protocols, while continuing to enforce compliance policies.

Customers who deploy Akonix A-Series appliances with Jabber XCP 5.1 also gain the ability to block or allow the use of public IM networks, such as Yahoo or MSN, and enforce IM use policy by ensuring that all employees use only Jabber XCP’s EIM if desired. For sanctioned use of public IM networks, A-Series appliances add security, message archiving, and compliance.

“With 360° Security for Real-Time Communications™ from Akonix, customers who have deployed Jabber XCP 5.1 have the distinct advantage of a multi-tiered approach to IM security, ensuring that all IM traffic is detected, controlled, and reported,” said Don Montgomery, VP of marketing at Akonix. “As Jabber, Inc. continues to build on its EIM platforms, Akonix is committed to providing their customers with best-of-breed IM security products that integrate with their real-time communications needs.”

“Combining Jabber XCP’s messaging features — such as blocking restricted data, rewriting content or integrating with backend systems in real-time — with Akonix’s A6000 Appliance, gives our customers the most comprehensive approach to IM security and compliance on the market,” said Dave Uhlir, VP of marketing at Jabber, Inc. “Akonix is the first, and thus far, only provider of IM security and management products that meets the needs of customers utilizing this real-time communications medium by integrating with Jabber XCP 5.1 at the API level.”
