BASF to showcase Mercury Sorbent HX emissions control solution at EUEC 2014 Conference

High performance mercury removal for coal-fired power plants while also preserving fly ash sales

Exhibiting at booth 622, with technical experts on hand for in-depth information exchange

Presenting the latest field trial results on February 3

WEBWIRE – Tuesday, January 28, 2014

SELIN, NJ BASF will showcase its advanced Mercury Sorbent HX stationary emissions control solution at the Energy, Utility and Environment Conference (EUEC) 2014 taking place February 3-5 at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Mercury Sorbent HX is a cost-effective solution that reduces mercury emissions for electric utility customers while preserving the quality of fly ash that can be sold to concrete manufacturers.

Electric utilities that operate coal-fired power generating units are challenged to control mercury emissions in a cost-effective way, in line with increasingly stringent regulatory requirements, such as the U.S. Mercury & Air Toxics Standards (MATS).

BASF understands the challenge that electrical utilities are facing. With Mercury Sorbent HX, we provide an innovative solution that can cost effectively address these commercial and regulatory dynamics, said Fabien Rioult, Ph.D., Business Development Manager, BASF. Mercury Sorbent HX enables high performance of mercury removal while preserving fly ash value, enabling a viable revenue stream when sold as an admixture for the concrete industry.

BASF Mercury Sorbent HX is a brominated mineral sorbent enabling a low-carbon solution for mercury emissions compliance. In third-party independent testing, it consistently delivered more than 90% of mercury removal for coal-fired power plants exhaust stacks to meet and exceed future U.S. state and federal regulations.

BASF will showcase Mercury Sorbent HX at booth 622, highlighting the key benefits that the solution brings to the power industry, including:

Reliable mercury capture, which helps coal-fired power plants meet and exceed state and federal regulations.

Preservation of fly ash sales, enabling utilities to generate income and avoid disposal costs.

Cost effectiveness achieved through competitive pricing.
Reliable supply.

In addition, on Monday, February 3, from 1-3 p.m. BASF will present an EUEC plenary session highlighting results derived from recent full scale field trials titled BASF Mercury Sorbent HX A Mercury MATS Compliant Technology.

We have made great progress in advancing our Mercury Sorbent HX technology since its launch at last years EUEC, Rioult said. We look forward to highlighting that progress and our demonstrated ability to control mercury emissions to ensure cost-effective regulatory compliance.
