The "Cosmopolitan’s" - a new "Cartoon Reality Show"

When the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino opened it’s doors on December 15, 2010,  Nobody would have imagined how prophetic their “Just the right amount of wrong” marketing campaign would become. Union protests, endless lawsuits, and disastrous gaming numbers forced the beleaguered casino to embark on an aggressive marketing strategy to lure new players.

This new marketing strategy included most notably, the issuance of an enormous amount of “free play” to induce qualified customers to visit the property that were “new to brand”, and the liberal extension of credit to strong cash players that had either had no credit or a poor credit history. Their strategy did not work. The table games hold in the second quarter was 9.1 percent, below the 10 percent to 14 percent range forecast by the resort, and a source at the Clark County District Attorney’s Office states that, “Their office is handling more collections activity for the Cosmopolitan than any other resort property on the strip”. Filings from the Securities and Exchange Commission show the property has reported a net loss of $392.7 million since it opened in late 2010.  However, the Cosmopolitan was successful in luring at least one new player, and his name is Darryl Rosenblatt.

Most casinos are wary of Darryl Rosenblatt. Darryl is a professional Magician, Gambler, Television Producer, Independent Casino Host, and a Felon. A Felon that was convicted of crimes against Las Vegas casinos eighteen years ago. The Treasure Island will not allow him to play any game that involves cards, The Wynn and Encore will only allow him to play certain limits, The LVH Hotel and Casino won’t allow him to play at all, and the Harrah’s Properties have permanently trespassed him from their properties. However, based upon his enormous level of play, his own personal roster of players he represents, and the few individuals he plays for, the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino welcomed him with open arms.

In fact, they didn’t just welcome him, they courted him. From lavish penthouse suites to expensive Jewelry, they gave him everything he asked for, including a sixty thousand dollar credit line. Why? Because Darryl Rosenblatt is the most coveted type of casino gamblers- he is a High Limit Slot Whale.

Over the last three years Darryl Rosenblatt spent nearly two million dollars at the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino.

“What started as a fun and amiable relationship has soured Irreparably”, laments Darryl Rosenblatt from his Studio. “The way they have treated me, the way they treat other players, the way they treat their own employees, other guests, it’s just unacceptable.”

A string of what Mr. Rosenblatt calls “broken promises, and disrespect on every conceivable level,” prompted him to find out more about The Cosmopolitan.

“I couldn’t believe the way I was treated, I couldn’t believe the way they were treating other players, other guests, and when I found out what they were doing to their own employees, that was it, I was galvanized, I needed to know who owned the place, and who would condone this nonsense.”

When Mr. Rosenblatt learned that Deutsche Bank owned the Cosmopolitan, he felt that it explained quite a bit, with one lingering question, “How can a company that has spent over a billion dollars settling fines from it’s continued criminal enterprise be granted a Nevada State Gaming License?”

A quick google search reveals Deutsche bank has been convicted of criminal wrong-doing in several states and is under criminal investigation in Germany.

The show, the first of it’s genre, incorporates a reality show format within a cartoon.

When we asked Mr. Rosenblatt why he would purchase the Cosmopolitan’s domain name and parody their properties most embarrassing moments, he replied: “I want the world to see the place for what it is, I want people there to have a voice, within these cartoons they have a voice. Since the Website has gone up, I have received hundreds of emails from other players and Cosmo employees, they give me story ideas, videos, plotlines, it’s really quite incredible. When you make people laugh, they remember it… Hopefully, it will create a better environment for the folks that work there.”

Or cost them their Jobs. As funny as the cartoon may be, The Cartoon raises serious questions concerning the Cosmo’s suitability for a Gaming license. With the website receiving almost 5800 hits a day by people looking for the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino, and a Casino that that does 80% of it’s marketing on the internet, The Cosmopolitan and its parent bank, may have some serious explaining to do in front of the Nevada Gaming Control Board. “The Cosmopolitan’s” can been seen on the show’s website www.LVCosmopolitan.com
