Mobistar pays 1.2 million euros to initiate implementation of the cable regulation

Brussels – WEBWIRE

Mobistar has made the necessary payments to the cable operators for the introduction of the cable regulation. The period of 6 months for its realisation has now started.

Mobistar has thus given the official go for the effective introduction of the cable regulation in Belgium. The payments of 600,000 euros to Telenet, on the one hand, and 600,000 euros to Brutélé-Tecteo, on the other, are Mobistar´s initial contribution to the costs associated with the opening up of the cable networks.

These payments also determine the start of the 6-month period that the cable operators have, effective immediately, in order to offer the necessary technical and operational systems to potential wholesale customers. In this way Mobistar is fulfilling its promise to proceed with the effective introduction of the cable regulation and is taking the steps necessary to offer Belgian consumers competitive TV and fixed broadband services in the future.

Mobistar is counting on the cable operators to collaborate in order to inject a new dynamic into the market, just as the mobile operators earlier enabled the introduction of wholesale offers.

Should the cable operators not fulfil their obligations, Mobistar trusts that the various competent regulators will actively ensure that the process of opening up the cable networks can be carried out successfully, in the interest of both the competition and consumers.
