Atlanta, Georgia – WEBWIRE

"Think like a journalist!!"

Atlanta, Georgia -- Liz Buddenhagen, Atlanta legal nurse consultant, attended the SBDC (Small Business Development Center) of UGA (The University of Georgia) on December 6, 2013 in Athens, Georgia.

Women’s Business Expo:

The expo featured speakers Judifer Pearson of the Clayton State SBDC on marketing, Kim Tyler of Elite Senior Services in Athens, Ernie Webster, business development coordinator for the UGA Procurement Office, and “Public Relations 101” by Taryn Scher of TK PR in Greenville, SC.

Scher quoted Bill Gates “If I was down to my last dollar, I’d spend it on public relations (PR).” She recommended to the women that before engaging in any PR, businesses need to set up a website, biographies of key personalities, appoint a spokesperson, create business photos - shot on a white background and procure sample products.

Scher said to plan on “six months to see noticeable results” from marketing efforts. Also, “often times, the first thing you will notice is an increase in website traffic.”

For “how?” (to get good PR), she recommended “think like a journalist!!”

The expo was organized by Sara Spinks of the UGA SBDC and photography was by J. Mitchell Christian. Maeghan Pawley, a reporter with the Athens Banner Herald newspaper, covered the expo in the December 14, 2013 issue: “Pawley: Women in Business Expo Invigorates Professional Drive.”
