Rebound therapy has proven to be extremely beneficial to the young people supported by Birtenshaw.

Birtenshaw provide a wide range of support services and cater for young people and young adults, from the age of 4 upwards. They operate a number of services including a special school for young people with a significant physical disability, including complex health needs, or with a moderate to significant learning disability, such as autistic spectrum disorder.

Birtenshaw school provides a caring community in which every child feels valued as an individual and enjoys positive learning experiences in a supportive and motivating environment.

In addition to running the school, Birtenshaw provides a number of Residential children’s homes, which offer full time or shared care, on a short or long term basis. As if that wasn’t enough, they also deliver a domiciliary care service, a short break service, a Positive Activity Centre and many health and therapeutic services.

The personal and corporate health cash plan specialists have donated £5,000 to Birtenshaw, which will support their work in funding two projects. The first involves the purchase of a brand new adapted mini-bus which will offer transport opportunities to wheelchair users. The second is a therapeutic project which requires the purchase of a new trampoline, required for innovative rebound therapy; proven to give young people with a disabilitity a sense of space, balance and coordination.

Michelle Hinselwood from Birtenshaw said: “Rebound therapy has proven to be extremely beneficial to the young people supported by Birtenshaw and a new specialised trampoline would enable children with a disability to promote relaxation, sensory integration, improve fitness and to improve communication skills.

“It’s the sort of learning experience that we believe every child deserves. That is why we are dedicated to brightening lives and building futures for young people with special needs, using ‘ordinary life principles’. We want young people to enjoy experiences that others might take for granted.

“Charitable donations from companies like UK Healthcare are essential for us to make this a reality.”
UK Healthcare is a leading provider of personal and corporate health cash plans; with a wide variety of policies that allow plan holders to claim back the money that they spend on medical services like dental and optical checkups, health screenings, prescriptions and hospital stays, up to agreed policy limits.

But the company also backs a number of charities and healthcare institutions throughout the UK, including Birtenshaw. During 2013 UK Healthcare donated more than £100,000 to a wide range of charities and it is their  ambition to continue and hopefully  improve upon this level of contribution in 2014.
