TAOS, NM – Jan 6, 2013 – After raising $27,000 last year to help fight breast cancer, Taos Ski Valley K2, and Studio Karina are once again proud to host the Breast Cancer Awareness day in the ski valley, taking place on Saturday, February 22, 2014. The fifth annual celebration will include a full day of exciting fundraising activities to benefit Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC) and the Anita Salas Memorial Fund. Skiers, riders, artists, families, visitors and locals are invited to join in support of this important cause.

The Breast Cancer Awareness Day at Taos Ski Valley consists of three main events:

  • K2 Bumps Challenge - a fun and challenging marathon down the infamous Al’s Run – one of Taos Ski Valley’s most famous and popular mogul runs on the front face of the mountain. This event promotes an active lifestyle while raising awareness and funds for B4BC’s education and support programs. Skiers and riders are invited to come out and participate in teams of two, or tackle the feat individually. Athletes must raise a minimum of $100 to participate. Registration will open January 15, 2014.
  • Paint for Peaks: Snowboard Art Auction - hosted in the Martini Tree Bar at the base of the mountain, Taos Ski Valley will once again host the Paint for Peaks: Snowboard Art Auction featuring custom, one-of-a-kind artwork created on snowboards produced by renowned local and regional artists. This year contributing artists include El Moises, Randall LaGro, Marianne Fahrney and Toby Morfin. All proceeds from the art sale will go to B4BC and the Anita Salas Memorial Fund. K2 has once again donated the snowboards that will serve as the canvases for artists to create one-of-a-kind works of art for this year’s event.
  • Live Music by Donavon Frankenreiter - Taos Ski Valley and Tea of a Kind are pleased to present critically acclaimed singer/songwriter and professional surfer, Donavon Frankenreiter. California-born Frankenreiter has toured the world performing and making music, not to mention surfing and deriving inspiration.

“Breast Cancer Awareness Day at Taos Ski Valley offers something for everyone: an exciting skiing and riding marathon, a one-of-a-kind art show and for the first time this year, a nationally known musician,” said Adriana Blake, administrative manager of Taos Ski Valley. “This event is loved by locals and visitors alike because it brings together art lovers and ski enthusiasts committed to the cause of fighting breast cancer.”

Over the last five years the Breast Cancer Awareness Day at Taos Ski Valley has raised more than $60,000 for B4BC and the Anita Salas Memorial Fund. B4BC is a non-profit, youth-focused education, awareness, and fundraising foundation whose mission is to increase awareness about breast cancer, the importance of early detection and the value of an active lifestyle. (The Taos Ski Valley event is part of the B4BC “Shred the Love” Fundraising Winter Series Campaign.) The Anita Salas Memorial Fund is a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance for breast cancer services in New Mexico. Skiers, riders, artists, families, visitors and locals are invited to join in support of this important cause.
