Movea Licenses Leading SmartMotion Technology to Microchip
Adding to the growing number of industry leaders who use innovative Movea solutions to deliver high performance, high accuracy sensor hub microcontrollers
CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW (CES), Las Vegas – Jan. 6, 2014 – Movea (www.movea.com), the leading provider of data-fusion and motion-processing technologies, today announced that Microchip Technology Inc. has incorporated Movea’s SmartMotion technology into the newly announced Microchip SSC7102 sensor hub. Movea’s high accuracy motion processing models enhance the user experience by delivering compelling motion driven applications and services all while reducing power consumption.
“Our focus is to continuously provide more advanced features to the mobile computing market that deliver the best user experience while preserving battery life,” said Patrick Johnson, VP of Microchip’s Computing Products Group. “Movea brings the motion processing expertise that, when combined with our sensor hub, opens a world of new possibilities for mobile computing manufacturers.”
Movea’s Windows 8.1 compliant sensor hub library is integrated within Microchip’s SSC7102 sensor hub and uses Movea’s patented auto calibration techniques for the gyroscope and magnetometer inputs to give best in class resilience to magnetic perturbations that commonly occur inside larger buildings.
Movea’s firmware delivers fast, accurate and responsive 3D orientation, eCompass, and gestures that facilitate excellent user interaction and acceptance when used within a wide range of applications. Embedding these functions within the Windows 8.1 sensor hub architecture frees up the main processor from the overhead of the repeat processing of these computationally intensive operations while achieving these functions for just a few tens of mWatts.
“Consumers have shown they are eager to use smarter and context aware devices,” said Sam Guilaumé, CEO of Movea. “We’re excited to partner on the SSC7102 to develop enhanced mobile solutions and deliver more meaningful information that advances the way we interact with our devices.”
Movea’s SmartMotion embedded solutions include high performance, scalable and flexible data fusion software libraries that make it easy for sensor, processor and mobile platform vendors to offer a complete solution to smartphone and tablet OEMs/ODMs .
Microchip’s SSC7102 sensor hub is available today. Movea and Microchip will together promote their combined solution to mobile computing manufacturers. Movea and Microchip will demonstrate the solution at their respective booths – (Movea: #25336) and Microchip (Microchip: MP25554) at CES, from Jan 7 to 10, 2014.
