The third Atos IT Challenge starts its search for the IT stars of the future

Students from universities in 10 countries are invited to create an app to enhance the Rio 2016 Games experience

Paris – WEBWIRE

Atos, an international IT services company, today launches the 2014 annual IT Challenge. This follows the successful 2013 IT Challenge in which the Austrian team – Evergreen – beat 55 teams to take the winning prize for their app. Evergreen reduces a cars gas emission and the time the driver has to wait in front of red traffic lights, by suggesting the best speed for phased traffic lights, based on the current navigation route.

The theme for the Atos 2014 IT Challenge is creating an app for an Enhanced Games Experience for Athletes, Volunteers, Spectators and/or Visitors to the Host City of Rio de Janeiro. Students from universities in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, US, Austria and India are invited to work in teams of two up to five students, tasked with finding new, innovative and useful applications.

The winning team will be given a trip to Barcelona including visiting the Atos Olympic Games IT excellence Center, meeting the Experts (from the IOC, the IPC, the Rio 2016 Organising Committee and Atos) to investigate if and how Atos can support to develop the app. The two runner up teams will be awarded an Atos Diploma demonstrating outstanding achievement and the chance to apply for a highly sought after internship at Atos.

Atos hopes the IT Challenge will foster and encourage innovation within the future generation of IT professionals, and host the competition every year.

“Gilles Grapinet, Senior Executive Vice President at Atos said: “The IT Challenge gives students of today the chance to write the IT story of tomorrow. This competition is a fantastic learning experience for the students, the universities and ourselves. We are looking forward to seeing how the students turn their university knowledge into exciting, commercial applications for the Games. We encourage students at the participating universities to apply.”

Teams are requested to register their interest and post their initial submission on to the dedicated IT Challenge website before 17th January 2014. Up to a maximum of 15 successful teams will be shortlisted. 14 will be selected by the Atos Scientific Community and experts from IOC / IPC and Rio 2016. The Scientific Community is a global network of around 100 of the best business technologists within Atos. One team will be selected by the public – the team with the highest number of likes on Facebook.

The Atos 2014 IT Challenge jury is made up of senior executives from Atos, the IOC, the IPC and the Rio 2016 Organising Committee, and industry leading partners of Atos. The jury will select the winners following presentations by each shortlisted team. The three winning teams and their university representatives will be invited to the IT Challenge award ceremony in June 2014.

The IT Challenge forms part of the Atos Wellbeing@work initiative and supports its objective to encourage and develop talent. Students from participating Universities can register interest at: atositchallenge.net
