Former Mining Director Sues for Attempted Extortion
Attorney Kenneth Eade announced today that he has filed suit for damages and attempted extortion on behalf of a former director of Casablanca Mining, Ltd., against Jerry J. Powers of Holland, Ohio.
The suit, filed in federal court in Los Angeles on December 11, 2013, case number EDCV13-2275 VAP, seeks injunctive relief for harassment and damages for extortion against Powers, who, the suit claims, threatened to report Eade’s client to the FBI unless his client paid Powers the sum of $269,000 for Powers’ alleged losses in the stock market.
The suit claims that Powers cajoled Eade’s client into gifting 150,000 shares of stock in another mining company as a gratuitous gesture after learning of Powers’losses, and then demanded the money after the shares were delivered to him. It further seeks to enjoin Powers’ harassment.
