Q-Track Announces Location System Patent Win
Q-Track Corporation today announced the award of U.S. Patent 8,599,011 for Firefighter Location and Rescue Equipment Employing Path Comparison of Mobile Tags. The company received national recognition in 2010 when a Q-Track prototype system delivered the fastest firefighter rescue in testing at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute campus. In the exercise, conducted by the Worcester, MA Fire Department and sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security, the Q-Track prototype located a “lost” firefighter in just over seven minutes, compared to a baseline of twenty-four minutes using conventional methods. The inventors are Dr. Hans Schantz, Jason Meares, Steve Werner, John Unden, Clark Della Silva, and Jason Kang.
Q-Track’s mission is enabling “Knowing Where, Anywhere.” The company’s patented Near-Field Electromagnetic Ranging (NFER®) systems employ a unique low-frequency, long-wavelength radio signal to achieve highly accurate (40 cm rms) location results even in complicated non-line-of-sight environments. NFER® Real Time Location Systems enable “Dosimulation™,” a radiation worker training system deployed in a quarter of U.S. nuclear plants. Q-Track also offers a proximity detection and collision avoidance system that protects people from their robotic co-workers at a variety of manufacturing plants nationwide, as well as location systems that enhance military training in urban environments.
Q-Track is a privately-held company located in Huntsville, AL. The company’s research and development was supported by the principals, private investors, and contracts and grants from Homeland Security, The U.S. Army, The U.S. Air Force, National Science Foundation, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the National Institutes for Health. The company holds fourteen U.S. patents with an additional one allowed and three pending. For more information, please visit the company’s website at http://www.Q-Track.com.
