The Karma Sauce Company Launches “Pecks of Peppers Project” Kickstarter Campaign

Upstate New York firm looks to crowdfunding for increased pepper production in 2014.

Pittsford NY – WEBWIRE

Hot on the heels of major wins at the NY & Hudson Valley Smoke n’ Fire Food Festival, The Karma Sauce Company has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for extended season pepper farming in 2014.

The goal of the project is to purchase a “high tunnel”, also known as a hoop house, or portable greenhouse, for the 2014 season and beyond. A high tunnel is a powerful tool for extending the growing season in the North East. Says Karma Sauce creator, Gene Olczak, “We have just been getting by growing traditional sweet and hot peppers, a large percentage of immature green peppers are hanging when the frost hits. Our specialty hot peppers take longer to mature so extending the season is critical. Besides enhanced pepper production, the high tunnel will allow use to grow other crops in the colder months and the tunnel’s portability allows for sustainable land use”.

Kickstarter is a crowdfunding site where project funds can be solicited directly from the public. “Kickstarter makes a lot of sense for us”, says Olczak, “The business is small but well established and so we can offer great pledge rewards that we can stand behind. In the event of a runaway success we will be in a good position to deliver next season on our larger long-term rewards. Beyond that our sauces are fantastically delicious and well regarded by a broad range of customers and critics.”

The pledge rewards include several sauce bundles for pledges between $18 and $85. Included in several rewards is new Extreme Karma Sauce® which won “Best Heat in the Hudson Valley” in pre-release last month. It is offered exclusively as a pledge reward for the duration of the campaign. Larger pledge rewards include pepper picking opportunities, harvest dinners and naming rights for the high tunnel.

As with all Kickstarter campaigns, the project’s duration is finite and the campaign’s success is all-or-nothing. In order to be successful the campaign must reach or exceed its $10,000 goal by Christmas Day 2013.

About The Karma Sauce Company

Inspired by his “locavore” friends and neighbors in a close-knit community in Pittsford, NY, Gene Olczak created the first Karma Sauce® recipe in the summer of 2008. The company’s name and likeness was inspired by a joyfully naughty Cairn Terrier who joined Olczak’s neighborhood family just as the first sauce was being created. Karma Sauce products are gluten free, all natural, and produced in small batches exclusively by Olczak in Upstate New York.

Over time the Karma Sauce line has expanded to over a dozen products including Kats’up, mustards and spice rubs, most of which have won numerous national awards. The Karma Sauce Company supports numerous local farms and businesses with its commitment to local sourcing. Apples, onions, cherries, squash, honey, and cider vinegar are just a few of the locally produced goodies used in their sauces.
