It costs Anthony Nolan £100 to recruit each new bone marrow donor to the register. That’s where companies like UK Healthcare come in.

The donation will help Anthony Nolan to recruit much needed donors to their bone marrow register. This could in turn save a number of lives.

Every 20 minutes, someone in the UK is diagnosed with blood cancer. In total, some 1,800 people in the UK require a bone marrow transplant, or stem cell transplant, every year. For the vast majority, a transplant is their last chance for survival.

Since the 1970s the Anthony Nolan charity has lead the way in finding suitable donors to provide stem cells, found in bone marrow, to the people who need them most.

Anthony Nolan uses its register to match potential bone marrow donors to blood cancer patients in desperate need of a transplant.  Last year, their work helped to save the lives of more than 1,000 people.

But despite their success, a similar number of people do not receive the life saving transplant they need. More donors need to be found.

It costs Anthony Nolan £100 to recruit each new bone marrow donor to the register. That’s where companies like UK Healthcare come in.

The £5,000 donation from UK Healthcare will be used to recruit 50 new donors to the bone marrow register; each with the potential to save the lives of people living with blood cancer conditions like leukaemia.

Laura Parsell, Senior Fundraising Manager at Anthony Nolan said: “We are so grateful to UK Healthcare for this generous donation.

“It really is vital to our life saving work. With support from organisations such as UK Healthcare we are able to make a huge difference to the lives of people with blood cancer in the UK”.

UK Healthcare provides a range of personal and corporate health cash plans, which can be used to claim back the cost of a variety of medical services up to generous policy limits.

From just 28p per day policy holders can claim back the cost of dental check-ups, eye tests, prescriptions, health screenings and hospital stays.

But in addition to this UK Healthcare makes vital donations to charities and healthcare organisations based all over the UK. Last year, the company raised more than £56,000 for charity. They’re already on course to exceed this figure in 2013.
