Saudi Readymix Supplies Heavy Weight Concrete for Nuclear Radiation Treatment Room at Dammam University Hospital

Dammam, Saudi Arabia - 11/25/13 — Saudi Readymix completes the second phase of pouring Heavy Weight Concrete (HWC) with low heat of hydration (heat from the reaction of water and cement) for nuclear radiation treatment rooms at Dammam University Hospital. The walls for the rooms required different thicknesses that ranged between one meter up to two and a half meters thick.  Heavy Weight concrete is used for radiation shielding in medical or nuclear applications. In this particular case, Saudi Readymix used iron based slag as the coarse aggregate, for the added weight and shielding effect, and fly ash to achieve the low heat of hydration.
