WEBWIRE

The website Drawing Roads is a blog and website about a grade school boy with Autism. “Our son has made amazing strides overcoming the obstacles presented by the affliction. In addition, he has an amazing eye for art.”

Starting at a young age, Curtis would would make massive pictures using sidewalk chalk. Often this art took the form of roads he had traveled as well as imaginary destinations. His focus and determination while completing these projects was simply amazing. Getting a peek inside Curt’s head can be difficult as conveyed in the blog. However, it’s clear he is seeing something a little different than a typical person by the way he reacts and the questions he asks.

One thing he loves is making art and his pieces are usually intriguing as is most autism artwork. His autism comes into play in many ways through his art. For instance, he will spend hours putting detail into his drawings and chalk roads that typically developing kids might get bored with or abandon early on. His favorite color is red and his favorite thing to draw is roads. He draws maps of interstates and other freeways as well as local maps. Curtis hopes to be an artist when he grows up and does not intend to let living with autism or anything else prevent him from a career in art.

These pictures and other additional art of his is included in the “Autism Artwork” portion of the site. “We would like to expand the platform to include artwork from other children with autism and give the art a good home on the net.” There is no specific requirements for submission. The idea is just to post some of the amazing artwork that comes from the beautiful minds of children on the spectrum.
